Bourscheid Castle

Bourscheid Castle
Luxembourg

Unusual cladding for this medieval castle.

Bourscheid Castle in Luxembourg, a popular tourist attraction, has had some wooden detailing added during the renovation of a section that is open to the general public.
This unusual cladding was made-to-measure using high-temperature-treated glulam scantlings of oak.
The decision to use these glulam scantlings, which are usually components used in the manufacture of wooden doors or window frames, echoes the robustness and nobility both of the castle and of oak as a material. As for the heat treatment, it gives the oak greater durability and a new brown colour to help it blend in better with its surroundings.

Project commissioned by: Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Service of National Sites and Monuments
