Heat-treated timber

The advantages of heat-treated timber

High-temperature treatment (HTT) is a process that improves wood durability and stability, using heat to modify the wood's chemical and physical properties and thus enable new uses yet still ensuring perfect resistance and longevity. This process is considered more eco-friendly and natural than competing techniques, as it does not require the addition of synthetic products. The technical process of HTT consists in sterilising the wood by eliminating any micro-organisms it may contain, as well as the hemicellulose responsible for water absorption. This strongly reduces internal humidity in heat-treated timber, and thus the appearance of mould during its life span so you can be sure the wood you purchase remains intact and of very high-quality. Sterilisation boasts a second interesting advantage, in that it reduces the risk of attacks from insects by blocking the emission of scented agents from the wood. Lastly, this treatment also leads to a modified colour of the wood in its whole, which varies according to the species used and temperature applied. Consequently, a myriad of natural colours are possible, thus extending the range of available hues and accommodating to all personal visions and requirements...

Heat-treated wood by Ducerf

As a long-standing expert in wood transformation, the Ducerf Group manufactures finished products made of heat-treated timber, that can be used either indoors or outdoors depending on your project. Wood species that benefit from this process are mostly oak, ash, poplar and maritime pine - which can all be used outdoors without any problem given their robust nature. Our THT woods are often used as cladding (façades, siding), as flooring (hardwood, deckings, skirting boards) or furniture (tables, wardrobes, decorative panels) - including in water rooms (kitchen, bathroom) or humid environments (by the swimming pool). They can also serve as raw material when making a garden shed, pergola or flower box. The creative possibilities are endless.
