How can I avoid wasting material when installing wooden decking?

Although the goal of ‘zero falls’ is rarely achievable when designing decking, there are several methods for minimising the consumption of raw materials.

It's important to take this into account if you want to rationalise the costs of your projects or reduce their environmental footprint.

Wood decking layout:

A technique that saves on off-cuts, but is also in keeping with the logic of installation, is to lay the boards in the direction of the largest dimension of the deck.

It's both more aesthetically pleasing and more efficient.

Choice of boards :

To reduce waste, you should choose deck boards with lengths that are multiples of the recommended joist centres.

With our THT ash deck boards, for example, which require joists every 400 mm, we offer lengths of 2000 and 2400 mm. This means that the boards fall right onto the joists without having to cut them.
