The International Wood Construction Forum: the Ducerf Group will promote the heat treatment process and hardwoods

The International Wood Construction Forum returns on 11th and 13th April to Burgundy, but this time to Dijon, at the Congress Centre Congrexpo. This 8th edition will be the opportunity for the Ducerf Group to participate in the promotion of hardwoods, on the stand for the Regional Council for Burgundy and Franche Comté, but also to promote the treatment of wood by high temperatures, with an intervention from Yves Ducerf.

During the Wood Construction Forum the Ducerf Group will be presenting on two levels:

Promoting hardwoods alongside the Region

First of all on the stand of the Regional Council for Burgundy and Franche Comté, who are funders and active partners of the regional forest-wood sector and of this event (as well as the Euroforest fair that will take place at Saint-Bonnet-de-Joux (71) from 21st to 23rd June next).

On this stand products, objects, models, creations, etc. will be showcased that come from the emblematic businesses in the forest-wood sector of Burgundy and Franche Comté. The Ducerf Group will exhibit products in small format, made of hardwood, from 1st and 2nd transformation activities:

  • An oak cube engraved with “750g of CO²”, symbol of its star essence and of the capacity of wood to stock carbon, and therefore contribute to the protection of the environment.
  • A multi-element anniversary cube in glulam wood: in natural oak, poplar and ash THT A demonstration of the Group’s innovation for the promotion of local essences with heat treated timber and the highlighting of glulam, an important technique in its industrial activity.
  • Samples of cladding and terrace decking in wood THT Côtéparc®: these are innovative products designed with hardwoods and originating from a secondary processing activity. A range specifically designed with architects and specifiers in mind.
  • Glulam sections, components for the manufacture of indoor / outdoor joineries in wood or mixed materials; a leading range from the Group mainly intended for manufacturers.
  • Panoplot® (solid panel) and oak planking.

Yves Ducerf will present the THT process (High Temperature Treatment)

Next, on Wednesday 11th April, during the 1st Inaugural Session and the 3rd Encounter for the promotion of hardwoods in construction: Yves Ducerf will intervene, as the manager of Les Bois Profilés, secondary wood transformation activity of the Ducerf Group, and in particular as the Chairman of the heat treatment unit Bois Durables de Bourgogne .
Accompanied by David Chavot, Director of the company Margaritelli Fontaines, and also a shareholding partner of that company (Bois Durables de Bourgogne), they’ll present the technique of heat treatment for timber, its advantages and multiple uses, as well as the services offered by the company.

“We decided, 6 or 7 years ago, to believe in the exploitation of local wood for various uses, and this natural technique affords a double advantage, explains Yves Ducerf. The first for decorative purposes, as heating the wood to 180 or 200 degrees darkens its colour, which is appealing for interiors, for use in parquets and flooring. The second for outdoor use, as by heating it we increase the durability of the wood. This means we can rely on native species, like ash or poplar, that wouldn’t otherwise be appropriate.”

And the utilisation of wood in construction has developed over recent years, the technique of THT opening up new possibilities. “Today, wood benefits from a favourable image with project owners, site managers and the general public.  And we have our chance to make the most of it, particularly in the fitting and the restoration of buildings. Wood, being much lighter, enables, for example, the realisation of extensions, with elements built in the factory and installed with greater ease. And then there’s another significant argument, it makes for a clean building site in comparison, for example, to concrete...” Just some of the issues that Yves Ducerf will discuss at the conference.
