Batichêne CLT wood

Batichêne CLT wood

At a time when RE2020 is strengthening environmental requirements in the building sector by promoting carbon footprint reduction, the exploration of new local wood species, such as hardwood, offers a sustainable and innovative solution. As the first cross-laminated timber (CLT) panel made entirely from Burgundy oak, Batichêne is revolutionizing the construction industry. Produced in Charolles (71) by Bois Croisés de Bourgogne (BCB) since October 2024, this CLT wood panel enhances the value of secondary-grade local oak. Sustainable and responsible, it can be used for structural elements, bracing, and partitioning.

An Innovation for Sustainable Construction

A material highly favored in construction, CLT wood has traditionally been made from softwood and often imported into France. As a pioneer in its sector, Batichêne, a solid oak wood panel, is revolutionizing the future of construction. Elegant and design-driven, with its exposed oak, it integrates seamlessly as a finished cladding for walls, finished ceiling underside, or even finished flooring in parquet form.

Prefabricated to measure, Batichêne panels offer great architectural freedom and allow for dry construction processes, reducing the need for additional finishes like plasterboard or painting.

Certified through a New Technical Survey (ETN), the oak CLT offers superior static performance. It is thinner than traditional solutions, enabling real space-saving benefits, both floor-to-floor and in overall floor area. With locally sourced French oak from Burgundy forests, this solution is characterized by its low carbon footprint. The oak, with its long lifespan and high density, can absorb and store up to 1,200 kg of CO₂ per m³, which is 60% more than softwood CLT.

Not only eco-friendly, but Batichêne also contributes to the well-being of its users, guaranteeing a healthy and pleasant indoor environment. Its high density and low thermal diffusivity make it an excellent thermal and acoustic insulator.

A Wide Range of Applications

The Batichêne 3 or 5-ply structural wood panels provide versatile design possibilities. They can be used in various structural configurations, from simple buildings to multi-span structures or cantilevered designs.

The flexibility of these CLT panels makes them ideal for a variety of projects:

  • Residential Buildings (1st and 2nd category):
    • Houses, multi-story apartments, student residences, retirement homes (EHPAD)
  • Public Buildings (ERP):
    • Schools, daycare centers, hotels, public and cultural buildings, sports halls
  • Offices & Industrial Spaces:
    • Offices, industrial premises, vertical extensions, and building additions
