The chairs of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris
Notre-Dame de Paris: 750 Solid Oak Panoplot© Panels Used to Manufacture the Cathedral’s 1,500 New Chairs
An extraordinary project! The Landes-based joinery company Sièges Bastiat selected solid oak panels from the Ducerf Group to craft the seats for the 1,500 new chairs in Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. This historic and exceptional undertaking was part of a call for projects launched by the Archbishop of Paris and the Rebuilding Notre-Dame de Paris association, of which the Southwest-based SME was a winner. In total, 750 high-quality cabinet-grade oak Panoplot© panels from our sawmill will allow the 12 million worshippers and tourists who visit each year to admire the nave of the restored monument, starting with its inauguration at the end of 2024. When solid Burgundy oak once again meets French history… The Ducerf Group is there!
Solid wood panels with highly acclaimed technical characteristics for interior design
The Panoplot© solid oak panels from Groupe Ducerf are made of solid planks along their entire length and glued together widthwise. In other words, they are ready-to-use panels. A valuable advantage in the eyes of Cédric, a cabinetmaker at Sièges Bastiat : "The panels arrive already glued, which represents a considerable time saving for us," explains the woodworking professional. "They are also sanded on one side, thus avoiding additional touch-ups. Furthermore, the panel dimensions allow us to have very little waste when custom-making the seat, which would not be the case if we had produced these elements in-house, with a completely manual design," he indicates.
