Just like every autumn, the usual period for stockpiling wood is in full swing in the French sawmills. At the heart of debates in the hardwood sector: prices are still on the rise, procuring round logs is problematic, but opportunities never fail to arise in France, as well as abroad. We checked in with Edouard Ducerf, Deputy Managing Director of the Ducerf Group.
Transporting Ducerf’s wood – The art of “constantly leveraging and adapting!”
In some ways, they're the air-traffic controllers of the Ducerf Group... but their task revolves around the roads, railways and sea. From their control tower in Vendenesse-lès-Charolles, Burgundy, the staff from Sales and Logistics Management manage the almost continuous rotation of lorries and containers transporting Ducerf's wood to the neighbouring town, as well as halfway across the world. This article takes a closer look at this strategic department which, spearheaded by the Head of Transport, Terry Charnaisse Brown, must constantly juggle with modes of transportation, costs and national and international law.

It's a little slice of paradise in the very heart of Burgundy. The Hôtel de la Poste, owned by the Michelin-starred chef Frédéric Doucet, stands between two flower-lined quaysides in the “Venice of Charolais.” On entering the hotel, the use of wood provides a cosy and sophisticated welcome. The material is omnipresent throughout the hotel, from the elegant and comfortable bedrooms, to the internationally renowned gourmet restaurant and the relaxed Bistrot du Quai.
